John Boardman
John Boardman is a retired US diplomat who lives in St Petersburg, FL where he is a member of the Academy of Senior Professionals at Eckerd College. He served from 1970 to 2004 in Washington, South and East Asia, Central America, Africa and the US Mission to the United Nations. He was the Deputy Principle Officer at the US Interests Section in Havana Cuba from 1997 to 2000, a turbulent period as Castro’s Cuba struggled with the cut-off of Soviet economic support. After Cuba, Boardman was the Political Advisor
to the Commandant of the Marine Corps. (He had been a Marine Intelligence Officer 1964 – 1970 with two tours in Southeast Asia.). His last position was Deputy Chief of Mission in Vietnam.
