Andrew Caddell

Andrew is the President of the Task Force on Linguistic Policy, a lobby group for the English-speaking community in Quebec. He has been active in Canadian public life for six decades as a reporter, ministerial advisor, public servant and diplomat.  He began as a broadcast reporter in Ottawa, Montreal, Quebec City, Calgary, and St. John’s. He served with the World Health Organization in Geneva and UNICEF in Macedonia and Bangladesh.  He was a foreign service officer at Global Affairs Canada for 15 years, and advised ministers in the federal and Ontario governments, and the Premier of Newfoundland and Labrador.  He has written speeches for Ministers of Foreign Affairs, Prime Ministers and the Governor General and was a key contributor to Canada’s policy at the United Nations.

Andrew is currently a columnist for the Hill Times newspaper in Ottawa, a frequent guest on CJAD Radio in Montreal, and a Town Councillor in the historic Quebec village of Kamouraska, where he lives.  He is also the co-author, with Dave Stubbs, of “The Goal,” a book about Canada’s love for hockey.

Andrew is very proud of his heritage in Quebec, which goes back to 1640, as well as his roots in Scotland, Ireland and Barbados.  He has climbed several mountains in the Canadian Rockies, cycled all of Canada, and last year played all six positions in his Oldtimers hockey league.

Andrew is the father of three children, is married to Elaine Feldman and holds a Bachelor of Arts and a Master’s in Journalism from Carleton University.
